Rebecca M Becker - Owner

As owner of Petite Travelers, I am proud to say that our first year in business was a very successful one, and I‘m very excited to begin our second year. The response to this service has been overwhelming. I am so thankful for the support and continued business throughout the community of Nantucket, as well as from visitors, East to West.

Growing up in Southern Connecticut, I always loved business and considered it a hobby of mine. At the young age of 7, while living in Lordship, I dabbled in several entrepreneurial ventures. The community loved getting little notes from me (usually tapped to their front door) inviting them to a sale I was having in my front yard or a performance in my backyard. Neighbors would actually pay money to watch several of my friends and I perform hysterical dance routines to The Beach Boys. I even remember looking at retail spaces to open a shop at this very young age.

My love and drive for business stayed with me throughout my years at Castleton College of Vermont. The very first day of my freshman year, my roommate and I had a brilliant idea. We launched a laundry service. To wash and dry your clothes on campus was $1.75 per load. We charged $2.50 and would deliver the clean cloths right to the customer’s dorm room. Well, it turned out to be a not so brilliant idea once the soccer team began to drop off their uniforms, and we began to miss our classes because of the workload. The 75-cent profit margin wasn’t exactly worth our time. We quickly removed all the flyers that we practically wallpapered the campus with and promptly went out of business.

I moved to Nantucket immediately after receiving a BS in Journalism and Studio Art in 2004. Coming to Nantucket had always been a dream of mine. While summering here through college, I discovered a precious and unique little place, and I knew it was to be the next chapter of my life.

Currently, in addition to Petite Travelers, I own The Nantucket Gift Basket Company along side my partner, Dyan Craddock. I have also been with N Magazine for 5 years as an advertising representative and love every second of working with such a great publication. I teach piano to 9 amazing students under the age of 8 and recently became a real estate agent with J. Pepper Frazier Company. Needless to say, I keep very busy! I enjoy everything I do more and more each day.

When not working, I love to spend time with my family and my partner of many years, Brendan, and our two lab puppies, Murray and Brady (brothers). I also, along with five other women, launched a group called Petticoat Row last year. Our mission is to celebrate Nantucket’s women in business. Once a month, we hold a networking event with guest speakers from around the community, who provide their stories and business knowledge to Nantucket women of all ages. It has been yet another very rewarding venture in my busy life.
